In 2011, a total of 68.82 million tons of cargo was handled at Latvian ports, which is 12.5% more than in 2010, according to the Transport Ministry's data.
Last year, the Freeport of Riga handled 34.05 million tons of cargo, 11.7% more than in 2010. The Freeport of Ventspils handled 28.45 million tons (a 14.7% increase), the Port of Liepaja – 4.86 million tons (a 10.8% increase), writes LETA.
Bulk cargo made up the largest part of the cargo turnover at Latvian ports in 2011 – 33.74 million tons (an 18.1% increase); followed by liquid cargo – 23.13 million tons (a nine% increase), and general cargo – 11.95 million tons (a 5.1% increase). 305,939 TEU containers were handled last year, which is 19.4% more than in 2010.
